Birthday Outfit

2017, birthday, over the knee boots, OOTD, burgundy, winter,

Happy birthday to me, happy birthday to me! Hello all! If you couldn't already guess, today is my 23rd birthday and I am so excited. I absolutely love birthdays and this year is no exception. One of my favorite birthday traditions is the birthday outfit. And no, it has nothing to do with your birthday suit!

Anyways, every year, before my birthday, I either plan an outfit or buy something for an outfit that I save up for my birthday. Last year, it was these awesome shoes. And this year, it's this dress!

I love doing this because it makes the piece feel special and it gives me that extra oomph of confidence on my actual birthday. I found this dress in early January and immediately fell in love. I knew right away that I was going to save it for today. So, I hid it in my closet as I planned my outfit.

I love this dress first and foremost for the color. This deep burgundy is a favorite of mine and I love how the cool mint pops against it. The other thing I love about this dress is the cut. It is such a flattering design that has an old world feel with the length and the sleeves, but a modern take with the keyhole-front vent.

I could not be happier with my birthday look this year, especially since I was able to use one of my gifts (this clutch was a gift from my best friend Kate!). Well, I'm off to relax and celebrate! Happy weekend! Until next time, XO

Turtleneck Thursday: Work-Wear Turtleneck

Thursday, February 23, 2017

2017, turtleneck thursday, turtleneck, stripes, OOTD, winter,

Hello all! Another Turtleneck Thursday is finally here and this one is a good one. I was talking to a friend the other day about my favorite topic, turtlenecks, and she was telling me how she loved to wear them, but had trouble dressing them up for work. Of course, I immediately interjected and told her you can easily dress up a turtleneck! It is just all in the accessories. So for the next couple of Thursdays I am going to give y'all some ways to make your turtlenecks work appropriate.
2017, turtleneck thursday, turtleneck, stripes, OOTD, winter,

This week, pair your turtleneck with a blazer. If you blazer is darker, choose a bright turtleneck and a sparkly necklace so you don't lose your entire figure or look dull. If you are wearing jeans, choose a dark wash with a pair of neutral heels. With dress pants, you could wear some cute flats or heels even if you need to be more dressed up.

Either way, if you are having trouble with your turtleneck, think of it like a button-down shirt or long-sleeve top. It doesn't have to be complicated, so don't make it complicated. Just go out there and rock that turtleneck. Until next time, XO

Making Cheetah Print Easy

Wednesday, February 22, 2017

2017, winter, fashion, OOTD, cheetah, J.Crew,

Cheetah print is one of my favorite patterns. Normally, cheetah print is incorporated in my accessories through my shoes or a scarf, but this cardigan was something I couldn't pass up. It is the perfect addition to an LBD or an all black outfit.

2017, winter, fashion, OOTD, cheetah, J.Crew,

Although I love this sweater, I have really struggled to wear it with anything other than black without looking over-the-top. I started thinking about how to wear it and I was thinking about how cheetah print is just made up of warm brown tones. And warm, neutral tones are easy to mix and match especially with jewel tones.

So, I decided to keep my top half nice and simple with a black v-neck and simple gold jewelry under my cheetah print. Then, I added these beautiful deep burgundy cords that tied the outfit together perfectly and gave me that extra oomph I'd been looking for.

2017, winter, spring, scarf, leather, OOTD,

If you are having these awkward warm days interspersed into winter like we are, then you will know that they can be close to impossible to dress for. Low 40s in the morning but 65  by lunch time makes layering key and for me, this means a leather jacket. The great thing about a leather jacket is that it's light weight, but is still a warm, substantial layer. It was the perfect compliment to my t-shirt and scarf when I didn't want a really heavy coat. It would also be great over a turtleneck! Yes, I went there, but turtlenecks are awesome.
Although leather jackets are perfect for that extra layer of warmth, I always struggle to accessorize them because I am tempted to wear all black. It is so easy and classic chic to wear all black, but with a leather jacket on top, all black is a little too edgy for me right now. The remedy for this, whether it be with your bag or jewelry or a scarf, is to add a pop of color to soften up the tough leather.
I would love to hear how y'all are dealing with this weird weather so make sure to comment below! Until next time, XO

P.S. Is this bag not the cutest?! My best friend Kate gave it to me for my birthday and I'm in love!

Turtleneck Thursday

Thursday, February 16, 2017

Hello all! I'm sorry I've been a little MIA this week. Work has been busy and my days seem to end before they even begin. Hopefully, I will be back on track next week! But, in the meantime, I could never forget about Turtleneck Thursday. This week we are taking a small break from an outfit post in favor of an article about some other people who also love turtlenecks this year...men. Sure, turtlenecks are every where for women, especially with snow and layering, but, Devon showed me this crazy interesting article about how men are styling turtlenecks this season too! Check it out and know that when you wear a turtleneck, you are not alone. They are the piece to style this winter! Until next time, XO

Neon and White

Friday, February 10, 2017

2017, winter, polka dots, winter white, OOTD,
If you have been following along here on Lefty Living Life for a while, you will probably have noticed that I wear certain pieces over and over, just paired with different items and accessories. That is kind of my MO. I find pieces I love and have no interest in wearing anything else.
2017, winter, polka dots, winter white, OOTD,
The problem with this is your wardrobe can get very boring and repetitive if you aren't creative. To keep my outfits interesting, I try to never wear the exact same outfit twice. That can be as simple as changing my earrings or my coat. Or it can be something more drastic like creating an entirely new combination. Either way, it keeps me on my toes and makes things more fun.
2017, winter, polka dots, winter white, OOTD,
This sweater for example. I typically wear it with jeans or hiding under a jacket and have always found it to be a little boring. However, against this cream skirt, the neon polka dots really pop!
2017, winter, polka dots, winter white, OOTD,
I was so happy to see this sweater making a statement and I can't wait to wear it again soon. Just goes to show that experimenting can sometimes be exactly what a piece needs to make it awesome. Until next time, XO.

Turtleneck Thursday: Camels and Stripes

Thursday, February 9, 2017

2017, OOTD, winter, turtleneck, turtleneck thursday, stripes, J.Crew, over the knee boots,
My camel sweater has always been one of my favorite pieces because I love camels and it is a very comfy sweater. However, like most pieces that you are comfortable with, it can be difficult to try new things and create new outfit combinations.

It's all in the details

Wednesday, February 8, 2017

2017, OOTD, lace, layered necklaces, winter,

What makes an outfit great, in my opinion, is the details. Anyone can wear a cute dress or a sweater and a pair of boots, but it is the small details and add-ons that take an outfit to the next level.

Top 10: My Winter Essentials

Tuesday, February 7, 2017

Winter can sometimes be difficult to get through, but it doesn't have to be! Here are my 10 essentials for surviving winter no matter what comes my way.

1. With my long commute this winter, having a way to keep my tea warm for the whole drive and at work has been vital. I absolutely love my yeti. I thought they were a little overrated at first, but it keeps my tea boiling from when I make it through my entire hour commute. When I get to work, my tea is normally still too hot to drink! I couldn't ask for a better container.

2. Although I love black tea, I am a little limited because I can't drink caffeine. However, my best friend and my boyfriend have made sure I am well-stocked with decaf black tea. Right now, I am rotating between these four and they are all delicious! Sangria ZingerEarl GreyChaiGolden Dragon

3. So I love tea and loose leaf tea and it can be hard to find cute infusers that can be easily transported. This was a gift and I am obsessed with it. I love sloths and this little guy is so cute hanging off my mug every morning!

4. The perfect companion for my tea drinking is a good book. I just started this one and it is so interesting! I love the Mitfords and I am so excited for this book.

5. Hopefully, everyone knows by now that I love turtlenecks and that are definitely one of my essentials this winter. If you are confused, you should check out our Turtleneck Thursday series! Here is last week's installment if you missed it.

6. I have always been against puffer coats because they make me think of the Michelin Man, but I finally caved and got one this year. The final thing that pushed me over the edge is that they are supposed to be so much warmer than other coats. Let me tell you, it definitely is! This coat is noticeably warmer than my peacoat the the belt prevents the Michelin Man quality.

7. Other than being cold, my other winter struggle is my hands. They have terrible circulation and get dry really easily. These tech-friendly gloves have been a lifesaver when I'm walking around because they keep my hands warm without limiting my phone access.

8. My other necessity is my hand lotion. This stuff is a little expensive, but lasts forever and makes my hands feel so nice. I've been using this for years and cannot say enough good things about it.

9. For me, staying warm is all about layering. Sure you can buy a warm sweater, but you will be even warmer with a vest or something else on top of your sweater! This vest is one of the staples in my wardrobe. It looks cute by itself on top of a cute shirt or layered under a jacket.

10. The final key for staying warm? A blanket scarf. It is the perfect final addition to any outfit and I actually use mine as a blanket at work and in restaurants. If you are cold natured, a blanket scarf is key. You can thank me later. Until next time! XO

Hello all! Another Thursday, another excuse to wear a turtleneck! This turtleneck is the newest addition to my collection and I am so excited about it. It is bold, bright, and just so peppy, which is a nice contract to my other turtlenecks, with are typically more jewel-toned.
One thing I love to do with bight pieces is pair them with lots of sparkles. The bright background really makes the sparkles pop whether it is a turtleneck or not.
Moral of the story this week is that your turtleneck doesn't have to be dark in color just because it's winter. Bright colors are perfect to add variety and brighten your wardrobe this winter. Until next time, XO.
