Pink Professional

2017, summer, work wear, pink, statement piece, turtleneck,

Hello all! Happy Friday! Yesterday's post was slightly delayed because of a very eventful evening. Details on that coming soon! But, I still want to talk about making pink professional! As you all know, pink is one of my favorite colors, especially when it comes to my wardrobe. But just because you love something, doesn't mean you should wear it to work. Take this sequined skirt. I am obsessed with it, but there is a time and place for it. And work does not fall into either of those categories.

2017, summer, work wear, pink, statement piece, turtleneck,

But pink can be made to be professional, you just have to be deliberate about it. Adding pink through your accessories is always a good first step to test the waters and see if it feels professional enough for you. Starting with a pink statement necklace or pink purse with a classically professional outfit like a suit jacket, button-up, or pencil skirt is an easy transition. You can jazz up your outfit without causing too many waves.

2017, summer, work wear, pink, statement piece, turtleneck,

If you are like me, and want to step it up a notch, stick with classic work-wear shapes like pencil skirts and blouses. Then add in pink with fun patterns. For me, it is much easier to make pale pink work place appropriate than hot pink. For hot pink to work, it has to be the right outfit and it is overall more complicated.

2017, summer, work wear, pink, statement piece, turtleneck,

Pale pink is a much easier option and is perfect for summer. I am obsessed with this pink gingham skirt from J.Crew. It is so fun and summery, but the cut makes it perfect for a work-place setting. For me, this outfit would be great for an interview or a business meeting because it is conservative and professional enough, but still shows off my personality. Until next time, XO

Body suit, skirt, and layered jewelry...the perfect summer staple

2017, OOTD, summer, pink, off-the-shoulder, J.Crew, ruffle, girly,

Hello all! And just like that, the week is halfway over. 2017 is flying by for me, I can't believe July is almost upon us. So much has already happened this year and I have some very exciting things coming up in my life and on the blog. So make sure to stay tuned over the next couple of weeks...you won't want to miss these posts!

2017, OOTD, summer, pink, off-the-shoulder, J.Crew, ruffle, girly,

I have always been a planner and that applies to all aspects of my life, including my outfits. Normally, I pick out my outfits the night before and it all starts with one piece- either something I haven't worn in a while or something I've been wanting to wear. Then, I typically stew on my outfit for a good portion of the evening trying to think of new ways to wear it and accessorize it. Sometimes, this ends up with a great outfit, other times, not so much and I have to start over.

2017, OOTD, summer, pink, off-the-shoulder, J.Crew, ruffle, girly,

This is one outfit where it all came together even better than I had hoped. I hadn't really worn a necklace with anything off-the-shoulder yet and I love these longer chains with it. I like the idea of the neutral jewelry and shoes against the pastel and then the surprise of the hot pink. Also, the skirt with the body suit instead of jeans or shorts worked so well because I wasn't making sure my top was tucked in all day! Perfect solution! Until next time, XO

Why wear one necklace when you could wear two

2017, summer, statement piece, layered necklaces, button-down, OOTD, pink, pearls,

Hello all! I hope your week has gotten off to a great start! As you have probably seen from my snap story, I have been having a blast pet sitting for one of my favorite puppies Maddie. Add me on snapchat at Taylor Curry or tcurry16 for tons of puppy pictures!
2017, summer, statement piece, layered necklaces, button-down, OOTD, pink, pearls,

Anyways, my week has gotten off to a fun start and I am so excited about this outfit. Classy, girly, and sparkly are my main three goals when putting together any outfit and this outfit definitely fits that criteria. To me, there is nothing classier than a crispy button-down. Now granted, my button-down could stand to be ironed and made a little crisper, but you get the idea! There is just something about a button-down that immediately feels classy and sophisticated to me.
2017, summer, statement piece, layered necklaces, button-down, OOTD, pink, pearls,

Sparkles are typically easy for me. I love jewelry and have quite a large collection of sparkly jewelry and other accessories. However, today I want to try something a little different. I've layered with this necklace before, but only with smaller silver necklaces, never with something as big as this flower necklace. What I love about this look is that the emphasis is taken away from the pearls and there is a whole new layer to the flower necklace. I will definitely be experimenting with layering statement necklaces soon!

The final aspect of this outfit was the girly-ness. Girly is easy for me because I love pink. With this outfit, I didn't want the pink to be the focus, but rather just an additional statement. Matching the pink of the necklace with my shoes and purse was the perfect way to tie everything together and not only complete the look, but also add that girly pop I was looking for. Until next time, XO

Sprinkle Chocolate Chip Cookie Bars

Sunday, June 25, 2017

Someone once told me that sprinkles are the glitter of the baking world. Now we all know how much I love anything glittery or sparkly, so it would only make sense that I would also love anything with sprinkles. Of course, this proved true over the past year as I made lots of sprinkle cookies for every holiday! The sprinkle cookies are amazing, but they are rather time consuming and I have been looking for a new baked good to mix it up at work. My mom made these for my sister when she was visiting and they were too good not to make again. It is one of the simplest recipes ever and so so yummy. Try them and let me know what you think!

Ingredients:
1 cup butter, room temperature
3/4 cup brown sugar
1 egg
2 teaspoons vanilla
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 1/4 cups flour
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips...next time I might try dark chocolate, but that's just me
1/2 cup sprinkles

Directions:
Preheat oven toe 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Line an 8 x 8 inch baking dish with parchment paper and spray with cooking spray.
Cream together the butter and brown sugar on medium speed in a stand mixer until light and fluffy, about 2 minutes. Add egg and vanilla and mix well.
Combine four, salt, and baking powder and add to mixture mixing until just combined. Stir in chocolate chips and sprinkles. I would stir these in with a spatula or by hand so you don't crush the sprinkles.
Press the dough into the prepared pan and bake for 20-25 minutes, until the edges are golden brown. Allow to cool on a wire rack before cutting.

Recipe and photos are both from my mom's fabulous food blog! Thanks Mom! Until next time, XO

How to Wear...Ruffles

Saturday, June 24, 2017

2017, summer, OOTD, how to wear, ruffles, off-the-shoulder, J.Crew, Anthropologie, girly,
Earrings: J.Crew; Bodysuit: J.Crew; Jeans: J.Crew; Watch: Omega.
Hello all! Happy Saturday and what a beautiful Saturday it is turning out to be! Even though I work on the weekends, I always look forward to Saturday morning because I get to sleep in a little and enjoy some productive downtime in the morning before I head off to work. Today, I've been thinking a lot about ruffles. I adore ruffles because they are a fun, girly detail that fits perfectly into my style aesthetic. However, they aren't the easiest thing to integrate into your wardrobe or even to start wearing in general. Here are some tricks I've discovered a long the way for adding ruffles into your wardrobe in a girly, but still adaptable to your style way.
2017, summer, OOTD, how to wear, ruffles, off-the-shoulder, J.Crew, Anthropologie, girly,
Necklace: Old Anthropologie, similar here; Top: Old J.Crew, similar here; Jeans: J.Crew; Watch: Omega; Purse: Old Anthropologie, similar here; Shoes: Pour la Victoire.
The easiest way to start with ruffles is to keep the ruffle small and unassuming and keep the rest of your outfit unassuming. This black t-shirt, for example, is the perfect introduction to ruffles. There is just a small detail on the bottom, but it doesn't overtake the entire outfit. Because the t-shirt is black, your outfit is not automatically girly so you can make it as girly or not as you want.

Top: J.Crew, similar here and here; Jeans: J.Crew; Shoes: Cole Haan; Purse: Old Anthropologie, similar here.
Finding a top with only a small amount of ruffle detail might be challenging. But, if you find one with ruffles on the top, you can use your hair or a cardigan to up-play or down-play the ruffles depending on your mood. Also, if the piece is patterned, this tends to draw attention away from the ruffles because there is other stuff happening that you can focus on.

Top: Old Anthropologie, similar here; Necklace: J.Crew; Skirt: Old J.Crew, similar here, here, and here.
A ruffle does not have to be big to pack a punch. Some small ruffles at your neckline feels classic and you can easily amplify the impact by drawing attention to it with a big necklace. For ultimate impact, put your hair up. There is no where for the ruffles to hide and it will make your neck look longer.

Hat: J.Crew, similar here; Necklace: J.Crew, similar here and here; Top: Anthropologie, similar here; Watch: Omega; Jeans: JBrand; Purse: Vintage Coach, similar here; Shoes: Madewell, similar here
If you love ruffles, but want to down-play the girly aspect, toughen up the look with bold, neutral accessories. Stay away from anything pastel or neon and stick to a black, brown, and gray color palette. Add accessories that speak towards a completely different style like a hat and motorcycle boots. Ruffles can be whatever you make them so don't feel pinned into the girly corner if that's not you.

Top: J.Crew; Jeans: J.Crew; Watch: Omega
If you are really ready to take it to the next level, go for something one-shouldered or off-the-shoulder. This allows for maximum impact of the ruffles and is the perfect way to wear this fabulous summer trend.

Don't forget that with this, like with anything else, stay true to your own style and personality. It's always important to branch out, but don't wear things that make your feel like you're trying too hard. You always want to be comfortable in your own skin because that is when you will look the most amazing! Until next time, XO

Summer Red Stripes

Friday, June 23, 2017

OOTD, 2017, summer, stripes, statement piece,

Hello all, happy Friday! Thank goodness it's Friday because I am in need of some R&R! Although I am not a huge t-shirt person, I love a good striped tee. Especially a red striped one. There is just something so classic and summer about a red striped t-shirt.
OOTD, 2017, summer, stripes, statement piece,

I like this one in particular because it's interesting. It is almost a terry-cloth material, but much lighter. I like that it has a variety of stripe sizes too. It is slightly cropped, which is not normally my speed, but the back is so unique that I decided to make an exception.
OOTD, 2017, summer, stripes, statement piece,

I love how the top has a bit more a sleeve and a higher neckline to off-set the cropped nature. It also makes the perfect backdrop for a statement necklace. I hope y'all have a fabulous Friday. Until next time, XO

Big Jewels and Cheetah Print

Thursday, June 22, 2017

2017, OOTD, work wear, statement piece, cheetah, mint,

One of my favorite things about being in the working world is being forced to experiment with clothes. Wearing the same dress or skirt over and over again can get so boring and repetitive. So, I always try and mix up my outfits in one way or another.
2017, OOTD, work wear, statement piece, cheetah, mint,

Skirts are a little easier because you can mix up your top, shoes, and accessories. Changing a statement necklace or other aspect of your outfit can not only change the vibe of an outfit, but can always make it almost unrecognizable. As long as you aren't wearing the same skirt in the same week, this is an easy way to mix up your work outfits.
2017, OOTD, work wear, statement piece, cheetah, mint,

Dresses can be a little more difficult, especially if they are patterned and recognizable with this one. The key is changing up your accessories. The last time I wore this, it was quite a bit cooler outside so I wore over-the-knee boots and lightened up the look with peach accessories.
2017, OOTD, work wear, statement piece, cheetah, mint,

Now that it is warmer, I really wanted to lighten up the entire look and emphasize some of the lighter colors instead of the richer tones. Mint and pastels in general are a great way to lighten up an outfit and are one of my favorite color trends to wear in the summer. I also love the cheetah print with this because it is more interesting than just a plain black flat. Until next time, XO

Classic Red Lips and Stripes are Perfect for Summer

Tuesday, June 20, 2017

2017, OOTD, summer, red, red lips, classic, top knot,

For me, there is nothing more classic than stripes and red lipstick. It just has that feel of the French Riviera or Rome in the 60s. As much as I love it, I really only wear this combination in the summer. When it's cold, I'm way too tempted to add multiple layers and patterns to the point that you lose that classic vibe
2017, OOTD, summer, red, red lips, classic, top knot,

Because this is such a classic look, I like to maintain as much of that feeling as possible while still having fun with accessories. To do that, I like to have big, but classic accessories. That add just enough of a punch but you don't loose the original combination of stripes and lipstick.
2017, OOTD, summer, red, red lips, classic, top knot,

These earrings, although I bought them at J.Crew last year, have a classic vibe and the neutral colors don't make them overtly contemporary. Same thing goes for this bag, which happens to actually be vintage.
2017, OOTD, summer, red, red lips, classic, top knot,

Red lipstick dresses up an outfit so much that I always like to have something a little undone about the rest of my look. A messy bun was the perfect option because it toned things down and shows off my earrings. What's not to love? Until next time, XO

Father's Day

Sunday, June 18, 2017

Hello all and Happy Father's Day! I hope you have had a relaxing and family filled weekend. My dad has always been an amazing role model and supporter of me and it's always nice to take some time and thank him for all he has done. So thanks Dad! I love you!

From my dad, I got both my love of art and he probably had some influence on my fashion tastes as well. Dad's style is all about the classics and keeping things simple, with pops of fun, especially with his socks. I remember when I was little always being fascinated by Dad's expansive sock collection, which is filled with different patterns.

Dads get a bad reputation for having a poor sense of style, but take a a lesson from my dad. Classic button-downs and khakis never go out of style and you can never go wrong with looking nice and put together. Happy Father's Day to all of the dads out there! Until next time, XO

Not Just a Black T-Shirt

Saturday, June 17, 2017

2017, summer, black, t-shirt, statement piece, OOTD,

There are some pieces that you can always rely on and can't go wrong with. A black top for example, which is the basis for any wardrobe is one such piece. It is important to have a simple black t-shirt when you just want to throw one on, but it is equally important to have one with a little detail. I like this one because the little ruffle detail is subtle but makes it look complete without a cardigan or a jacket.
2017, summer, black, t-shirt, statement piece, OOTD,

This kind of top is perfect for experimenting with statement necklaces because you essentially have a blank canvas. Almost any jewelry you wear will look good against black. I like to wear lighter colors that will really stand out against the black, especially pastels. This not only softens up the harsh black but also helps your jewelry make even more of a statement.
2017, summer, black, t-shirt, statement piece, OOTD,

Especially at this time of year, you want to lighten up your black top a little bit with lighter bottoms whether it is a colored skirt or shorts or lighter wash jeans. I've never been a fan of the super light-wash jeans, but these mid-range wash work just fine for me when I am wearing a lighter top or looking to mix up my typically dark jeans look.
2017, summer, black, t-shirt, statement piece, OOTD,

Once you have the top and bottom figured out, it is all about accessories...in this case, shoes and a purse. I love a dark chunky heel. There is something so classic about it and it instantly makes my outfit. I just recently got these as my "anesthesia shoes" after some medical procedures. Check back at this post for the whole "anesthesia shoe" story. But they are absolutely fabulous. The heel height is perfect and I love the suede and pointed toe.
2017, summer, black, t-shirt, statement piece, OOTD,

The finishing touch for this outfit was just a little pop of color with my bag. I've been wearing a lot of neon and decided to take a slight break, so pastel pink was the perfect solution. Until next time, XO

Neon for Work

Thursday, June 15, 2017

2017, summer, work wear, neon, Kate Spade, J.Crew, OOTD,

Hello all! This week, as I've tried to be work-place professional, I've also been trying to integrate neon pieces into my outfits. From this post, I think you could probably tell I love neon, but sometimes it can be so over the top and just feel like too much at work. However, I am all about a challenge and I think this outfit really manages to make neon appropriate in any situation.
2017, summer, work wear, neon, Kate Spade, J.Crew, OOTD,

The first key was finding the right neon piece. At work, a neon shift dress like this or a neon necklace over black is easy. You maintain your typical work place uniform, but make it more interesting with color. Also, it is very hard to be unprofessional when wearing a shift dress!
2017, summer, work wear, neon, Kate Spade, J.Crew, OOTD,

Once you choose your piece, it is important that the rest of your outfit is a little more subdued and very business professional. Now I am not normally one to say tone it down, but at there is a time and a place for everything and an office job is not the time or the place for an extremely over the top outfit.
2017, summer, work wear, neon, Kate Spade, J.Crew, OOTD,

My go-to when trying to be professional is a shift dress, suit jacket, and statement necklace so it was easy to transition those over to this dress. A light gray suit jacket is perfect of summer because it lightens up your outfit while also making your more summery pieces business-like.
2017, summer, work wear, neon, Kate Spade, J.Crew, OOTD,

Finally, my favorite part of this outfit is my bag. I just got it from the Kate Spade sale and it is absolutely perfect for work. The style is professional and it is big enough to hold my computer and all of my other stuff without being too overly large. Well, that's all for now, so until next time, XO

Off-the-shoulder Ruffles

Wednesday, June 14, 2017

2017, summer, ruffles, off-the-shoulder, white jeans, top knot,

Hello all! Off-the-shoulder has become the trend of the season and I am loving it! I was a little hesitant at first because I'm not normally one to bare a lot of skin. As we all know, my go to is a turtle-neck so anything off-the-shoulder is a little out there for me. However, I have found myself searching out off-the-shoulder pieces and generally loving this style.
2017, summer, ruffles, off-the-shoulder, white jeans, top knot,

The key for me has been finding pieces that still fit within my style wheel house. This has meant girly details and still a classic look. Ruffles have been great for this as they are easy to find with an off-the-shoulder look. They add the girly-ness I am always looking for and make it easy to wear this top without too much jewelry.
2017, summer, ruffles, off-the-shoulder, white jeans, top knot,

If you aren't ready to totally commit to off-the-shoulder, a one-shoulder top can be a good transition. I like this particular one because it is great for a summer day with white jeans, but would also be easy to dress up with jeans and heels for a night out.
2017, summer, ruffles, off-the-shoulder, white jeans, top knot,

With an off-the-shoulder look, I think a necklace can be a lot. However, statement earrings can be a great alternative if you are looking to add a little pop to your outfit. Some of my favorite statement earrings are here if you need some ideas.
2017, summer, ruffles, off-the-shoulder, white jeans, top knot,

For this look, I wanted to keep everything pretty simple because I wore it to brunch. This top is so easy to dress up and for once I didn't want to go overboard. White jeans are great with a top like this because they tone it down a notch, plus the white really makes the black top pop.
2017, summer, ruffles, off-the-shoulder, white jeans, top knot,

I also like the idea of wearing your hair up with this kind of top because it really shows off the ruffle and the off-the-shoulder aspect. If your hair is down, you almost lose that, which would be a shame! Until next time, XO
