Her Campus Blogger Network Meet-Up

Sunday, January 31, 2016

This weekend I met up with three other North Carolina bloggers through Her Campus Blogger Network! It was so exciting to meet other bloggers who are doing similar things to me! Make sure to check out their blogs below. Also my outfit details are from this post! XO

Morgan on How 2 Wear it

Pattern Mixing

I am an extremely cold-natured person, which basically means I am always cold. So, in the winter, I have to be very creative about my layering so I can stay warm. My favorite addition to my layering collection in this sleeveless turtleneck because it is the perfect base layer. Plus, the stripes make it more interesting than a solid color. Do you have any tricks for staying warm? XO

SAG Awards

Good morning! I have lots to tell you today so there will probably be at least one more post...keep an eye out! Because of that though, let's get straight to the point. The SAG Awards were last night and I absolutely loved some of the dresses. Here are my favorites!
Alicia Vikander looked stunning in this sequin-covered dress!

I loved the conservative neckline, high slit, and perfect red of Anna Faris' dress

Christina Ricci's dress was so beautifully feminine and unique. Her whole look was perfect.

I adore Emilia Clarke and this hot pink dress is right up my alley!

January Jones has impeccable style and this pale green Grecian dress was no exception.

I love how the floral pattern and classic cut of this dress were made modern with the black ribbing and deep purple.

You don't see a lot of lace detail on the red carpet and I love Rachel McAdams' classic take on a red carpet gown

Viola Davis is always someone I look out for because she has great style, but also knows how to dress for her body style. Last night was no exception.

Poncho and Fringe

Friday, January 29, 2016

This sweater has turned out to be my favorite piece that I own this winter. I was a little concerned about how often I would wear a poncho-like sweater that is difficult to layer, but it is so cozy and comfortable that I end up wearing it all the time! Moral of this story? Every outfit does not have to be complicated. Sometimes it is nice to just have a simple, but refined look. XO

Friday Top 10

Of course, as soon as I decide to post a certain thing every Tuesday I also schedule five hours of classes that day. Moral of the story...my top 10 lists are going to shift around as necessary, so you will just have to keep checking back to see when I post it! So with that, here is this week's top 10!

1. I love food movies and Chocolat might be my favorite one. First of all Johnny Depp...need I say more? Plus they are in France and the main food is chocolate. Basically three of my favorite things!

2. As you know, I am an art history major and I love art. Currently, I am taking a modern art class and we just started talking about Matisse who is one of my favorite artists of all time! Here are some of my favorite works by him...

3. My favorite type of candy other than chocolate are gummies and I recently discovered a candy website that has the most adorable looking candies I have ever seen! I haven't had a chance to try them yet, but I can't wait to try the champagne bears for my birthday!

4. My new music obsession, Andra Day and her song Rise Up

5. If you don't already read Lena Dunham's biweekly newsletter, Lenny, you should. The writing is incredible and they cover some very interesting issues.

6. For Christmas, Natalie signed up for this service called Olive Box. Every month they send you different and unique stationary. I have only received a month so far, but already I am excited! My two cards from January were so cute (I already used both of them) and I can't wait to continue to nurture my snail mail addiction!

7. I have always loved the Fitzgerald's, but really knew nothing about them. I just finished this incredible book though called Z: A Novel of Zelda Fitzgerald. After reading it, I kind of hate F. Scott, but it was so interesting a different from the usual point of view.

8. One Direction released their newest video this week and not only do I love them, but it is also one of my favorite songs on the album!

9. My most recent binge watch on Netflix? Death in Paradise. A British, fun, cop show...my favorite thing and totally worth it!

10. J.Crew just launched its first sunglasses collection and  I can barely contain my excitement!!! I will definitely be looking into these this weekend :)

Navy and Gray Neutrals

Friday, January 22, 2016

Hello all and happy Friday! I hope you have had a wonderful week- mine has been a little busy as I get back into the swing of school. Today though, we didn't have any school as I am snowed into my apartment. As I write this I sit with a cup of tea under my heated blanket trying to stay warm! This time of year is always a little difficult for me because I am very cold natured and always have a hard time staying warm. The key is layering, which you are going to be seeing a lot of in the next couple of weeks. For me, the most important parts of my layering combination are my base layer and the last thing I put on. My favorite base layer is a turtleneck and this one is perfect because it is a thinner material, which makes it easy to put under multiple sweaters at the same time. The middle steps aren't as difficult for me, but by far the most important step is the last one. In this outfit, my last step was the scarf. I already had on the hat and sweater and felt pretty good and cozy, but the scarf really tied everything together (no pun intended!) and added that extra layer of heat that I needed! More layering tips and more fun outfit posts coming soon! XO

Critics Choice Awards

Tuesday, January 19, 2016

This week, instead of doing a top 10 today, I am going to have my top 5 outfits from the Critics Choice Awards! I love awards shows because you can really see the diversity in styles among the guests as well as the different trends.

1. Alicia Vikander- everyone is saying that Alicia is the breakout star of the year and I couldn't agree more. She has been incredible in everything I have seen her in. I can't wait to see what she will do next. In addition to be insanely talented, she also has an awesome sense of style and is not afraid to take risks, like with this look! I mean that is a lot of patterns, but I really think she pulls it off well.

2. Emmy Rossum- Emmy is always one of my favorite people to look for because her style is so classic and effortless, which is right up my alley. This awards show, she did not disappoint!  Plus, sequins! My favorite!

 3. Krysten Ritter- Krysten just recently came on my radar after I binge watched Jessica Jones (definitely go watch it if you haven't already). Her acting was so incredible and I am excited to see what she does next. Then, she came to the Critics Choice wearing this dress! Potentially my favorite color right now, sparkles, and definitely some understated elegance. A+ from me!

4. Saoirse Ronan- Ok, I am not going to lie...I have absolutely no idea how to spell her name. But, I can't wait to see Brooklyn- I haven't been able to go yet :(- and I love this dress, which has that old Hollywood style, but a more modern color and details. The perfect combination.

 5. Sarah Paulson- I don't necessarily follow Sarah normally, however this dress was show stopping for me. Classic cut, sequins, and a killer pixie cut. Three of my favorite things! Until next time! XO

MLK Day

Monday, January 18, 2016

Hello all! I hope everything is going well with y'all. For Christmas this year, I received a day-by-day left-hander's calendar with fun facts, quotes, and other interesting tidbits about lefties. Today's tidbit was inspiration from a fellow lefty, Martin Luther King Jr. and I thought I would share it with you..."The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy." With so many terrible things happening in the world every day, it is easy to forget how much of an impact one individual can have. Not only that, but also such potential for greatness exists in all of us. Today of all days, I like to think about all of the wonderful things people are doing every day, not all of the hateful and violent things.

Golden Globes

Monday, January 11, 2016

As you have probably heard by now if you didn't watch them, the Golden Globes were last night. I love watching award shows or at least the recap the next day because the fashion is normally so incredible and diverse. To tell you the truth, I was not very impressed with last night's styles. Everyone looked stunning, but there was a bit too much cleavage. It also felt like a lot of people wore similar silhouettes and not very many stood out. Below are my favorite outfits that did stand out to me! What did y'all think? Anyone I should have included? XO
I have loved Bryce Dallas Howard since The Help and she was incredible in Jurassic World. I love this dress, but what I love even more is how upfront Howard was about buying the dress at Neiman Marcus because they had more options for size 6s. Love the honest and she looked amazing.

Emmy Rossum could probably wear a potato sack and still look beautiful, but this is the perfect example of understated elegance. She didn't try too hard or have an extravagant dress, but she still looks stunning...nicely done!

Jennifer Lawrence is one of my idols. She is so real and honest and has a great sense of style. I love this dress. It's unique and modern, but still elegant and classy- the perfect combination.

I almost didn't recognize Lady Gaga without the meat suit, but she is someone else who toned it down and classed it up. I wouldn't change anything!

I wasn't a huge fan of Taraji P. Henson's dress on the runway, but when she went up the stair to receive her award, the fabric in the back flowed out and created this beautiful cape/ train combination that was to die for!

Matching Pink

Saturday, January 9, 2016

As you know, I adore pink and these pale pink heels are my favorite! But I always have a hard time finding the right occasion to wear them. With a dress, they are a little too formal for any event that I currently attend, but with jeans they are perfect! They add that little pizazz I am always searching for plus what's not to love about pale pink heels!
My last semester of college starts on Tuesday and I am nervous, but excited. The real world is a scary plus, but also so incredibly wonderful and amazing. This is going to be a year to remember so make sure to keep up here on Lefty by subscribing to our newsletter on the right or following us on facebook! XO

The Season of the Hats

Thursday, January 7, 2016

Hello my dear friends! I hope all is well. All is good here, although it was freezing today. Temperature wise it wasn't that bad, but the sun never came out and it just felt so cold! However, that is great for my new urges to wear hats every day. Thank goodness I had added to my hat collection recently. Moral of the story, expect to see lots of hat this winter!
In other news, I have some very exciting news for y'all...Lefty Living Life now has an app! It is completely free and is another awesome way for you to keep up with Lefty and all of my fun adventures if you don't already subscribe to our weekly newsletter (you should still subscribe because the newsletters are extra fun every week!). Just go to the app story and search Lefty Living Life, I'm the only thing that comes up! Lots more exciting things going on this year so stay tuned. Also notice today that I didn't wear pink or sequins- quite an accomplishment for me :) XO

P.S. the scarf is from Zara and is one of my favorite things because I use it as a blanket as soon as I sit down. It wouldn't go into the widget so here is the link!

Shades of Blue

Wednesday, January 6, 2016

Hello all! I was not joking when I said it was winter here! Yesterday it didn't even get above freezing, which for North Carolina is pretty cold. But I stayed pretty warm in my winter gear. My coat is the same one from last year and is one of my favorite things in my closet. It has a bunch of pockets, is easy to layer under, and is super warm- perfect for walking to class or going to work. My gloves are brand new, Mom gave them to me for Christmas. My hands are always cold, but they are very small so I have always had a hard time finding gloves to fit me. These are perfect. I love the bright blue too because it adds that awesome pop of color to my very dark winter wardrobe. My trusty pink purse also helped with the lack of color :) I can never get it to work with the widget, so here is the link...I would highly recommend it. I mean y'all see how often I use it! How are y'all surviving in the cold? XO

Golfing in Costa Rica

Tuesday, January 5, 2016

Hello! I am back in America, but I still have more pictures from Costa Rica! Let me tell you, we almost didn't make it out of the country...we had to take this sketchy, tiny little plane, but we made it! Every day in Costa Rica was an adventure. On our last full day, Dad and I went golfing. Well, let me rephrase, I drove the golf cart and Dad golfed, but we had a wonderful day and there were some incredible views! The first photo might be one of my new favorite summer outfits, especially after wearing it on the golf course. It felt so vintage and 60s country club! I loved it! But it is definitely winter here in North Carolina. Before we go back to being bundled up in sweaters and scarfs, here are a couple more warm weather pictures! XO

Purple and Bows

Monday, January 4, 2016

Good Morning from Costa Rica! I am not necessarily a beach person, but I could definitely get used to this. We are leaving in a couple of hours and it has been such an incredible adventure. I am however, excited to get home where winter has finally arrived! I've been dreaming about vests and hats and sweaters :) Next time you see me, I will be bundled! XO
P.S. My hat, cover-up and my favorite one piece can't be added to the widget so here are the links! Hat, cover-up, one piece

Black and White at the Coast

Saturday, January 2, 2016

We moved from the rain forest to the coast yesterday and it is absolutely stunning! We have our own patio in the room, which as you can tell I have already taken advantage of! We had never been in the Pacific Ocean before and it is so much warmer than I was expecting. I should have known, but the beach is beautiful and so relaxing...I'm so exciting to spend our last couple of days here.
It was an interesting transition from the rain forest to the beach because Costa Rica is not a very large country and in four hours, we were able to drive from 70 degrees and overcast with 100% humidity to high 80s/ low 90s and sunny with no humidity. When I was trying to pack for this trip, it was a little difficult to pack to say the least. However, this shirt has been perfect because it is loose so there is plenty of circulation in the heat, but also very easy to layer under a cardigan.
I am starting to get excited for winter though. Apparently it is cooling off at home finally and I can't wait to wear my vests and faux fur again! XO
