During the warmer months, I tend to wear a lot of color, especially pink. But as soon as it gets colder, my wardrobe seems to shrink to include only black, navy, and merlot with an occasional inclusion of other colors. This year, I've been trying to include more of my summer colors- mainly pale pink if I'm being honest- in my winter wardrobe. It has been surprisingly easy so far as pale pink is the perfect foil for the deep jewel tones I stick to in winter. It can be hard to make summery clothes look appropriate for the season in November (I can't believe December starts tomorrow!). But so far, I have found that when paired with tights, a fun sweater, and something furry, summery pieces fit right in! XO

Ruffled Details

Navy and pink have always been on of my favorite color combinations. But since I wear it so much, I try and get creative with my details to mix things up. Now that it is cooler, my favorite things to add are fur and sparkles. This sweater vest has become one of my favorite pieces because it is warm and cozy but also brings that old world elegance to an outfit. However, this sweater might be my new favorite piece. It is such a rich color navy and it is very soft. My favorite thing though is the ruffled sleeves. I thought they would bother me at work, but I didn't even notice them. Definitely my new favorite detail! XO

Sparkly Flamingos

Flamingos have never really been on on my radar before and I don't know how I missed them! I mean, they are pink, what's not to love?! I fell in love with this shirt when I saw it because of the pink sequins. However, I also love embellished t-shirts that I can dress-up. As y'all know, I don't really do casual, but that doesn't mean I don't love t-shirts and comfy clothes. I love pairing t-shirts with giant necklaces or skirts. It always feels unexpected and adds that little extra pop I'm always looking for to my outfit. XO

What 2 Wear: Thanksgiving

Thursday, November 24, 2016

Happy Thanksgiving! Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday because it is all about my two favorite things- food and family. I am especially excited this year because my diet was severely limited last year so I couldn't eat any of the delicious food. Rest assured, this year I will be partaking in all of the Thanksgiving activities including going into a food coma after dinner!
Thanksgiving is one of those holidays where it can be hard to decide what to wear because you want to be comfortable when you eat all of that food, but also look cute. So with our first What to Wear series, here are three different ideas for what to wear to dinner today.

Our first look is all about being comfortable at a casual Thanksgiving dinner. This look is simple, but very cute with just enough sparkles for me. This sweater is one of my favorites because of the ruffled sleeves. They are the perfect unexpected detail on an otherwise simple sweater. They are also perfect for eating a lot because they will stay out of your way while you are eating! When it comes to a casual Thanksgiving dinner or really any event where the main entertainment is eating, you don't want to be wearing a lot of bracelets or a long necklace that will interfere with you eating!

Our second look today is also about comfort especially when you want to maintain the comfort, but need to dress up a little more.

I love this outfit because it is so cute, but you are wearing a sweatshirt! The sweatshirt makes it warm but also incredibly comfortable. If you are planning on eating a lot, but still want to wear a skirt, don't wear a tight bandage skirt with something tucked in. You will be miserable the entire time. Instead opt for a looser, but still tailored mini skirt with a button-down and sweater over top. No need to tuck it in, but you will still look cute. Add a little extra pop with a necklace, but be careful about the length! You don't want your necklace dragging through your gravy!

Our last look today is actually what I wore for Thanksgiving last year, hence the #TBT picture above! But as much as I hate repeating outfits, this is one of my favorite outfits of all times so no regrets about repeating this one! This is by far the best kind of dress to wear on Thanksgiving if you ask me. It is fitted enough to still be flattering, but has a lot of flare so you have room to eat all of the turkey you want! Plus it has pockets! I love wearing a turtleneck under a dress because it gives me that extra layer of warmth I always need and I don't have to worry about a sweater!

I hope y'all have a wonderful Thanksgiving and I would love to hear all about it! XO

Winter White- Practicing What You Preach

I have always been a big proponent of wearing white after labor day, but I have never been one to wear a lot of winter white. So it seemed about time that I start practicing what I preach, hence this new skirt. I was a little nervous because I always have trouble finding things to wear with white, but since buying it last week I've already worn it twice! I love it with this cozy blue sweater. Mini skirts are always a great foil to an un-tailored knit and a perfect excuse to wear heels. The dark navy and white with silver sparkles also felt very appropriately like winter. This would also be a great outfit for Thanksgiving if you still need ideas! Also keep an eye out for some more Thanksgiving outfit ideas tomorrow!
Any ideas on how else to wear winter white? I'd love to hear them! XO

2016 AMAs Red Carpet

Monday, November 21, 2016

AMAs, red carpet, Gigi Hadid

The dress is a little revealing for my taste, but I love the all lace look. This no-part hair style was also all over the red carpet and I am a huge fan! Gigi definitely nailed it this red carpet.

AMAs, red carpet, lady gaga

Lady Gaga was another who chose to wear all white and rocked it on the red carpet. Lady Gaga always has great or at least interesting red carpet style and I adore her new, more subdued look. This suit was classy and refined and I am obsessed with it.

AMAs, red carpet, Nina Dobrev

Another great suit on the red carpet. I love how Nina paired this blingy short suit with the lace under layer. It was edgy with just a hint of scandal- perfect, but not too much on the red carpet.

AMAs, red carpet, Selena Gomez

By far, Selena stole the show for me. This look is simple and classy, just perfect for the red carpet. Selena looked incredible and I couldn't be more excited to see her on the red carpet again!

This red carpet was not one of my favorites as the main style was a lacy outer layer with a visible under layer, which is not something that I would wear. However, I did love the no-part hair style that was all over the red carpet. XO

Coral Polka Dots

Putting on an outfit always makes me think about all the other times I've worn the pieces. The fun things I did, the memories I made. That is part of the fun of clothes- they carry those memories and feelings. Sometimes, having that association with a piece can be bad. This sweater, for example, I wore for the first time when I got sick and had to go to the ER last year. Ever since then, I've struggled to wear it because of the bad mojo. But what I've come to realize is that you can overcome that bad mojo. Being sick last year was one of the hardest things I've ever had to deal with. Everyday was a struggle to get through. But everyday, I also learned a bit about my self. Being sick made me strong and now every time I wear this sweater I remember that. So if you have any clothes with bad mojo, rewrite that story and rock that outfit. XO

Cozy Knits and Red Lips

I have never been a big fan of dress pants because I always struggle to find a flattering pair and I would rather wear dark jeans or a dress. However, I am obsessed with these. The pattern and cut feels very Mad Men-esque and we all know how much I love that. They are also great because they are a light-weight wool so perfect for this transitional weather. I would definitely recommend adding these or something similar to your wardrobe. Especially since you can easily pair these with a dark colored shirt or sweater.
I love this sweater with them because the sweater needs a little something to dress it up for work or an evening out. Yes, it is extremely comfortable and soft, but just with jeans it is a little casual. These dress pants and the red lipstick give it just the extra push it needs to be perfect for a nicer occasion.

Statement Camels

Camels are on of my absolute favorite animals. Second only to sloths if we are being honest. So when J.Crew came out with this sweater a couple years ago, I was just thrilled. One of the things I love about J.Crew is that a lot of their pieces are statement pieces at first glance. This sweater for instance- I mean it has a camel on it for Pete's sake. Despite that, and maybe this is just me, but I always find myself wearing those statement pieces the most. I love them so much that I find a way to integrate them into my wardrobe as often as possible!
Do you have any statement pieces that have become stables? I would love to hear about it! XO

Tuesday Top 10

Tuesday, November 8, 2016

1. Happy Election Day! If you haven't already voted, you might have a little time left, depending on your state, but make sure to get out there and be a part of our democratic system!

2. This weekend I watched The First Monday in May, and it was incredible! This movie is all about the planning of the Met Gala and its accompanying exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. I was expecting it to be interesting, but it was so well made and absolutely awesome! A must watch if you are looking for a new movie to watch.

3. As always on a Top 10 list, we had to include one of James Corden's carpool karaoke. Today's is sticking with the political theme and features Michelle Obama. No matter what your political views, this was a funny and entertaining episode and is great to watch!

4. I have been living in this fur vest since I got it a couple of weeks ago. It is perfect for layering under things, but also a great layer over a button-down or cute shirt as we transition into into fall and winter.
5. I'm sure you have already seen the trailer or at least the pictures of Emma Watson as Belle in the new Beauty and the Beast, but I wanted to make sure you saw them! Beauty and the Beast has always been one of my favorite movies and I can't wait until this reboot comes out!

6. Another must see trailer is for the Netflix special of Gilmore Girls. I have always loved watching Gilmore Girls with my mom and my sister and I am excited to watch these 4 episodes with them!

7. The final thing to watch is the new Netflix show, The Crown. I have not started it yet, but I have heard incredible things and I can't wait to watch it! Have you seen it? What do you think so far?

8. I love tea and hot tea is vital for me in the winter. I also love sloths. So a couple of months ago, my boyfriend Devon got me this incredible sloth tea infuser. It comes in a variety of animal shapes, but also works very well. A must have for tea drinkers this winter!

9. Speaking of Devon, this weekend we spent a significant amount of time cooking. On Friday, we made chocolate chip and blueberry pancakes, so on Saturday we decided to make use of our leftover chocolate and blueberries. We melted the leftover semi-sweet and dark chocolate and then poured it over the leftover blueberries. We then put it into the freezer for a while and when we took it out, we had a chocolate bar with blueberries inside. I never would have thought of this combination (it was all Devon's idea) but it is absolutely delicious!

10. Finally, turtlenecks. I have been talking about turtlenecks a lot lately and that probably isn't going to change anytime soon. So, if I have convinced you that turtlenecks are awesome, try these. They are awesome and a great layering piece so check them out! XO

Stripes and Fur

Mixing patterns is almost always a case by case situation. Sure I have rules about matching scale and matching color palettes, but at the end of the day, you normally just have to try it on and see how it looks. Last night for example, I tried on this turtleneck with this skirt. In my head, it looked awesome. In real life, I looked like a striped mess. It was bad.
But other times, mixing patterns works! I didn't even think about this vest being plaid until I put it on, but it ended up working really well with the stripes.
Any suggestions, ideas, or questions about mixing patterns? I'd love to hear them! XO

2016 CMAs

Thursday, November 3, 2016

CMA, Hillary Scott, red carpet

I am loving this cape on the red carpet trend! We saw it a little bit earlier this year, but I love the old Hollywood glamour it brings to a look. Especially when the entire ensemble is this beautiful white like Hillary Scott's.

CMA, 2016, red carpet, Jennifer Nettles

Jennifer Nettles has never really been on my red carpet radar, however this dress is incredible. It looks stunning on her and I love that she kept her accessories simple. With a detailed dress like this, you don't really need a lot of accessories and the detailed appliqué on this dress is beautiful and statement making enough on its own.

CMA, red carpet, Kelsea Ballerini

Kelsea Ballerini looked so adorable in this dress. I absolutely adored the colors and she was only one of a couple who rocked the dark lip trend. Sometimes a simple cut dress is the best option on the red carpet, especially when there is such a loud pattern.

CMA, Nicole Kidman, red carpet

I love Nicole Kidman's style, but I especially love how she is willing to take risks on the red carpet. This dress was definitely not your typical red carpet dress, but I adore the color and the style!

Motorcycle Tweed

tweed, pink, fall, motorcycle jacket

I have always loved tweed. I love textured materials and tweed is such a classic look. However, I have always struggled to find tweed pieces that looked good on me. In the past, all of the tweed pieces I've seen have been cut very similarly in a style that is not flattering for me. However, I've finally found some pieces that look good on me! This skirt was my first find and it has already been so versatile as we transition from summer to fall. I'm even more excited about my newest find though, this twee motorcycle-cut jacket. I absolutely love the cut because it makes it easy to transition between day to night or work to casual wear. I haven't had the chance yet, but I"m also very excited about layering with this jacket come winter. Any thoughts on tweed? XO
