Sleeveless Turtleneck

Sleeveless Turtleneck

Sleeveless Turtleneck

So we have established that I love turtlenecks, but sometimes it can be hard to find the perfect one. Obviously these J.Crew ones are some of my favorites and an easy go-to staple for me. However, this sleeveless one comes in at a close second. It is a little thicker than the J.Crew ones, which makes it great for fall weather. I also like that it is sleeveless so I can easily layer it under sweaters or dresses for an extra layer of warmth.
Have I convinced you yet that turtlenecks are the best? XO

Taylor at the tailor

Recently, I've change sizes a little for the first time in years and it has caused a lot of my clothes to fit oddly or be a little baggy. So, I decided to take some of my favorite pieces to a tailor to get them altered. Not to worry, I made A LOT of "Taylor going to the tailor" pun jokes while driving over there.
I was a little worried because I had never altered anything other than a hemline. However, as you can tell with this pink skirt, there was nothing to worry about! The pieces I got altered fit me even better now then when I bought them. After this experience, I would definitely recommend taking clothes to get them altered and if you have any questions I would love to answers them!
With these new fitting clothes came a new dilemma. I still want to wear them because they are almost completely new pieces, but the weather is changing. So I've had to get a little creative with my outfits. I discovered, though, that when it is 60 degrees in the morning and 80 degrees in the afternoon, a skirt, flats, and a sweater is the perfect amount of clothing for me! Thank goodness for our late North Carolina falls so I have time to squeeze in the rest of my transitional outfits before winter! XO
P.S. My bag is from this company that makes designer-esque handbags that are waterproof. They are awesome! And I would definitely recommend checking them out.

Turtlenecks- my favorite type of clothing

So if you are new to Lefty Living Life or haven't been paying close attention, I love turtlenecks and always have. It all started when I got my first pixie cut in seventh grade. During the winter, even if I was wearing a scarf, my neck would get so cold. So I started wearing turtlenecks as a necessity to stay warm. Now, they are so ingrained in my wardrobe, I don't think I could stop wearing them even if I wanted to.
I love the huge, chunky, knit ones because they are just so warm and comfy. But, my favorite ones are these thin, cotton turtlenecks from J.Crew. They are perfect for this seasonal weather with a light jacket, but they are also a great base layer once it gets colder. J.Crew has some awesome colors this year that I would highly recommend. I would also love to hear if y'all have any ideas on how to wear turtlenecks this fall and how you feel about turtlenecks in general! I will probably be posting about them a lot, so I would love the feedback! XO

60s Inspired Style

Tuesday, October 18, 2016

Hello all! My outfits are normally not directly influenced by movies, people, or other things I've seen. However, once I'm dressed and out the door, I sometimes feel like I just walked off a certain movie set and forgot to take off my costume. Earlier this year, I got that feeling with this Mad Men-esque outfit. Today, I felt like Alicia Vikander in Man from Uncle. First of all, I love that movie. It gives me costume envy every time I watch it! Secondly I love Alicia so I was not upset about channeling her. There is just something about a turtleneck, mini skirt, and tall boots that is very 60s to me! Anyways, this skirt is a newer addition to my wardrobe and it is just perfect for fall because I can easily pair all of my turtlenecks with it! XO

The Cape

Almost a year ago, I subscribed to Rachel Zoe's Box of Style. I love subscription boxes and this one seemed perfect for me. You only get one every quarter so I've only gotten three so far, but I've gotten some great pieces like my caftan and this cape!
I was a little iffy about the cape when it first arrived because it is so stark and black and white, which made me think of a black and white cookie, not a piece of clothing. But it is so soft, so I decided to at least give it a try. Thank goodness I did because I absolutely adore it! It is so easy to throw on over an outfit no matter how many layers you are wearing. Plus, it is just so chic! I can't wait to wear it more this fall and winter. XO

Pink and Fur

Pink and Fur

Pink and Fur

It definitely does not look like fall here yet, however it is finally starting to feel like it, which means it is finally time for sweaters, fun layers, and tights! Fall has always been my favorite season because I love the colors, in nature and clothes, and it's a little chilly, but you can still enjoy being outside. Other than jewel tones, my favorite fall fashion thing is fur. I love how it immediately gives your outfit an old world feel and how it can easily dress up knits or other casual aspects of your outfit, which makes this fur/knit vest the perfect statement sweater whether I wear it by itself or layered under a coat in winter.
On a completely different note, I've recently had some people comment on my level of formality and I thought now would be the perfect time to discuss it.  I have always been one to slightly overdress for every occasion. And I also adore dresses, skirts, heels, and big sparkly jewelry. This is a potent combination as I would wear this outfit just as quickly to work as I would hanging out at home on a Saturday. Especially now, being a little dressy has become as much a part as my daily style as a big necklace or pink. XO

Fall Trench Coat

Fall Trench Coat

I know I'm starting a consignment store, but I've never been a big consignment shopper. For some reason, I've just never had success, which is one of the main reasons I'm starting my own store- so it is easier for people to be successful buying consignment. Anyways, this trench coat was actually my first consignment purchase and I couldn't be happier. I'd been looking for a classic trench when I stumbled across this one in D.C. It was one of those perfect moments where the stars all aligned and everything worked out perfectly. Since then, I've been wearing it non-stop and it's been perfect for this rainy fall weather. Thank you whoever decided to consign this and man am I glad that we are the same size! XO

Hot Pink and Rain Boots

So, funny story. As you can probably tell, I love shoes and I have quite a lot of them. My shoe size hasn't changed since I was thirteen and I have amassed quite a collection. For the last five plus years, I have gotten most of my shoes from a local boutique. The owner is awesome and has great taste so I always find something I like. Plus, they always have great end of season sales.
Recently, my mom went shoe shopping at this boutique. When she walked in, the owner wanted to know my shoe-size because someone had returned a pair of Hunter rain boots with a broken buckle in a size 8. Of course, I am a size 8 so she gave me a great discount on the boots!
Clearly, it pays off to have a relationship with local stores since it got me this awesome pair of boots! XO

Summer Stripes

Whenever I wear stripes with red and blue, I always think about the 4th of July or sailors. The 4th of July thing is kind of obvious, but I think the sailor thing might come from an early love of Popeye. Ha. Either way, red and blue with stripes always makes me thing about summer, which was just what I needed as the edges of hurricane Matthew started hitting us here in North Carolina today.

Although this particular stripe/ color combination is pretty summery, stripes can also be great as we transition into fall and a great foil to a cozy knit. Stay tuned for many more stripes to come this fall and winter! XO

Jumpsuit with Pale Pink Details

It is finally beginning to cool down here and I've been trying to squeeze in some last minute summer outfits.
This jumpsuit has been wonderful over the past year. I bought it expecting it to be a statement piece that I wore every so often. However, whenever you have a piece you really love, you find ways to wear it.
It has been so fun experimenting with this and finding new ways to wear it. Sadly, I am going to have to say goodbye to the jumpsuit as it no longer fits me. But don't despair! This jumpsuit is going to be one of the pieces that will be available on my online consignment store! I am working hard on it so stay tuned for more updated. XO
