Happy belated Memorial Day!

Tuesday, May 27, 2014

Happy Memorial Day! Sorry it's a little late, but yesterday was jam-packed with fun things. First, I showed an old friend around campus. It was nice to be back on campus after a semester away, but it was completely devoid of students, which was just odd. Then after unpacking from  our weekend at the cottage and working on my packing list for Rome, we went to pick up my grandma who is going to be here for 2 weeks! It is great to see her after so long. Finally, we went to a friend's house for home-made ribs, cornbread, and strawberry cake. It was the perfect Memorial Day meal and such a fun evening! My mom is going to post about the ribs and the rest of the food soon and I will post a link once she does. I hope your Tuesday was awesome and have a great rest of the week! XO

Night out with the family and cookie dough dumplings

Sunday, May 25, 2014

Hello all! I hope you have been enjoying a lovely memorial day weekend! Mine has been very relaxing and quiet. Last night, the family and I went out for a lovely dinner in town. The food was good, but the best part was dessert. I ordered cookie dough dumplings with no idea what to expect, but hoping for the best. It turned out to be delicious. They were made up of cookie dough inside of a crab rangoon like pastry and then deep fired with chocolate sauce, caramel sauce, and vanilla ice cream. It was intense, but fun! I love trying new foods and creative ways to make things. Tonight, we are trying out a new pizza restaurant here and having the annual family Memorial Day corn hole tournament. It will be a fun evening to say the least! XO

Classic Style- Jean Jackets and Cowboy Boots

Thursday, May 22, 2014

Good morning! This month is going by so fast and I am already starting to get ready for Rome! I can't believe I leave in a little more than a week! I am very excited :) If you have any suggestions for my Rome adventures, I would love to hear them! Anyways, it is finally starting to warm up here again, but the past couple of days have been a little cooler forcing me to pull out jeans. Hopefully it will stay warm now, I am ready for a hot summer! In other news, I picked up the latest InStyle at the grocery yesterday with Shailene Woodley on the cover. It was a great article on Shailene and there were some beautiful pictures, so definitely check it out if you have time! XO  Jacket, Shirt, Necklaces, Watch, Bangles, Jeans, Boots

Baking Day

Monday, May 19, 2014

The weekend is always about baking at my house. My mom has a food blog and she tests all of her recipes on the weekend. So this weekend, we made mixed berry crumble top muffins, or rather I did while my mom multitasked and made four other things! Anyways, I am not a big muffin fan because they are normally too dry for me. However, these are amazing! I think they are so moist because of the sour cream. Not only are they delicious, they are also pretty simple to make. Here is the recipe and the link to my mom's post about them. Make sure to check out my mom's blog too! XO

Mixed Berry Crumble Top Muffins
Author:
Recipe type: Breakfast
Serves: 18

Ingredients
  • ¾ cup butter, melted
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 ½ cups sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups mixed berries
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 2 eggs
  • CRUMBLE
  • ½ cup flour
  • 6 tablespoons butter
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  • ⅛ teaspoon baking powder
  • pinch salt
Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 350ยบ. Either spray or line cupcake pans.
  2. Melt butter and set aside to cool.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, soda and salt. Add the berries and mix gently to coat the berries. Don't over stir because you don't want all the juice to escape. Just coat the berries in the dry mixture.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, sour cream and eggs. Add the liquid ingredients and melted butter to the dry ingredients and mix just until combined and I mean barely. Don't even worry about lumps, just make sure you can scoop it.  Scoop the batter with a large ice cream scooper into the muffin cups.
  5. For the Crumble, combine the ingredients and mix together with a pastry cutter or your fingers. Sprinkle on the top of the muffins. It makes more than you will need.
  6. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a wooden skewer inserted comes out clean. They will not be dark brown on the top. Allow to cool slightly and then transfer to wire rack.
  7. The recipe says it makes 12 muffins, but I had enough batter for 18 very large muffins.
  8. Butter Baked Goods (adapted slightly)

Oh how I missed Sunday brunch!

Sunday, May 18, 2014

I have always enjoyed Sunday brunch with its leisurely pace, hot tea, fabulous dress code, and yummy food. But since returning from London I have an even greater appreciation for it. You are probably wondering what could be better about Greensboro brunch than London brunch and I'll tell you- grits and biscuits. I am not always a comfort food person, but I love biscuits and grits with brunch. If you aren't from the South, you probably won't understand this, but consider this an official invitation to come down here and enjoy some amazing brunch in the South. What is your favorite part about brunch? Anything I should try? Enjoy the rest of your Sunday! XO

Good morning ladies and gents! Although a little cooler than I had hoped, it is still beautiful here! My trip to Rome is right around the corner and I am just starting to do my research- I am excited to say the least and there are so many things I want to do while I am there! I am going to Rome to take a travel journalism class and part of the class requirement is to write a blog about your travels. How convenient that I already have a blog! So while in Rome, there will hopefully still be outfit posts, but there will also be a lot about what I am up to in Rome. Please email me or comment if you have any recommendations for when I am in Rome or just want to chat! XO

The Met Gala and transitioning outfits from day to night

Tuesday, May 6, 2014

Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds

Cara Delevingne

Joshua Jackson and Diane Kruger

Emma Stone

Hailee Steinfeld

Marion Cotillard
Andrew Garfield
Hello all! There is so much to talk about today! First of all, last night was the Met Gala in New York. Of course this event always requires people to look their best and this year was no exception. Above, are some of my favorite looks. Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds definitely win cutest couple, but Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone weren't far behind. Emma's dress was one of my favorites of the evening along with Hailee Steinfeld. I loved Marion Cotillard's shoes and Cara looked fabulous as always. What were some of your favorite looks last night?
Today,  I also tried to be super creative and transition my outfit from day to night. It actually worked pretty well and this is how I did it. First, I changed my shoes from sandals to peep-toe booties. Then, I put up my hair, added a little more eyeliner, and traded in my bag for a clutch. Changing from day to night does not have to be difficult and in most cases is pretty easy if you think about what you are doing. I would love to hear what y'all think and if you have any suggestions! XO

Shirt: This shirt is originally from Madewell and it is already not online, but here is a similar one without sparkles, Jeans: Citizens of Humanity- I love these jeans because they are super high-waisted, but still stretchy so they are very comfortable to move around in. They are also the perfect length to cuff, Watch: Michael Kors, Bangles: Jewelmint- I love these because they are so versatile!, Bracelet: This adorable elephant bracelet is from a boutique in Greenville, SC, but I heard a rumor they had similar ones at Target- I couldn't find an elephant one, but here is a bumble bee, flamingo, and frog, Earrings: from a local jewelry maker in Greenville, SC
Day- Shoes: These are old and from a boutique, but here are two cute alternatives- one and two, Jacket: not the exact same, but similar from Madewell
Night- Shoes: Brand new Franco Sartos, I can't wait to wear these this summer!, Bag: My clutch is originally from Anthropologie and is actually made of canvases painted with oil paints. I couldn't find it online, but here are three cute alternatives- one, two, three

Yesterday was Audrey Hepburn's birthday, so in honor of her I decided to class it up and wear pearls and polka dots today. The rest of North Carolina hasn't quite caught up with me, but this 70 degree weather feels HOT after London! I am loving this beautiful sun and finally a change of clothes after wearing the same clothes for four months! I am still rediscovering all of my clothes and accessories that I left at home; I can't wait to wear all of them in the coming weeks! Have a wonderful start to you week and see you soon! XO

Home Again and Derby Day 2014

Saturday, May 3, 2014

Sunglasses: The View on Elm, Silver Necklace: originally Kate Spade but similar here, Purple Necklace: a birthday present from Mom from a local shop. Bigger, but similar here, T-shirt: The New York Times website, Shorts: Anthropologie

Good evening lovely readers! I am once again posting from the US instead of from across the pond. I was so sad to leave my home in London, but it is wonderful to be home. Plus, today was one of my favorite days of the year, Kentucky Derby Day. I'm not from Kentucky, but my family is and we have a Kentucky Derby party almost every year. The food is amazing and the company is even better. It is such a fun family tradition and I love everything about it. I was so glad I was able to make it this year especially with all of the complications of returning from England. Anyways, the party went off without a hitch and now it is just nice to be home and be able to relax for a little bit. I hope you had a wonderful Saturday and enjoy the rest of your weekend! XO
